Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort

Some hotels have a great location. Sugar Beach has one of the greatest locations on the planet! Imagine waking up between two volcanic giants — the iconic Piton peaks rising straight from the sea on either side of you.

Below, a white sand beach. Around you, over 100 acres of untouched rainforest. And the whole thing sits inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on an 18th century sugar plantation where history is literally built into the walls. This is St Lucia at its most dramatic.

The accommodation does justice to the setting — villas and bungalows with private plunge pools, walled gardens and verandas that frame those impossible views. Every guest gets a personal butler.

The beach is extraordinary, and so is what lies beneath it — some of the best snorkelling and diving in the Caribbean, with a full PADI dive facility right on site.

Families are genuinely well catered for here, with dedicated kids programmes that actually work — meaning parents get to enjoy the Rainforest Spa while someone else is keeping the children happy. Ten treehouse treatment rooms in the jungle canopy, treatments inspired by local ingredients — raw coconut, sea salt, organic cocoa. It's as good as it sounds.

Sugar Beach is one of those rare places where every single element — location, design, service, nature — comes together perfectly. St Lucia is spectacular, but this is St Lucia at its absolute best.
